In Istanbul, the world’s second capital of tango after Buenos Aires, dance becomes a mirror of deep social and political tensions. Ahead of the early presidential elections in a country sharply divided, one phrase echoes: “Tonight, we dance Istanbul’s last tango.” Set in a city caught between the secular values inherited from the Republic and the recent rise of an islamo-conservative power, the film follows a Geneva-born filmmaker who has lived in Istanbul for a decade. Through tango, she seeks both solace after a personal loss and a fragile space of resistance.
