Dichotomy of Separation
2019 – Leporello, unique copy
Exhibition “Nous, saisonniers, saisonnières… Geneva 1931–2019
Created for an exhibition on the history of immigration in Switzerland, this leporello uses its double-sided format to tell two versions of the same event: a deportation procedure experienced by the artist herself. On one side, official documents — cold, impersonal, referring to her only by case number, never by name. On the other, a personal voice: the faces she loves, her studio, the daily life erased by administrative machinery. The artist chose to produce a single copy, refusing any edition in order to preserve the work’s link to the exhibition and its deeply personal nature. The leporello thus becomes a form of artistic resistance to bureaucratic dehumanisation.
