Over the course of five years, the narrator embarks on a relentless search — from Geneva to the Syrian border — to find Oussama, a childhood friend and media activist who has disappeared. Carried by an intimate bond, the film moves through hope, fear, waiting and despair, in an attempt to rebuild in the face of absence. In Search of the Man with the Camera confronts the issue of enforced disappearance — the abduction of a person by state agents or armed groups, without acknowledgment or legal process. Through this disappearance, the film reflects on human rights violations, state violence, and the role of the image as memory, evidence, and resistance against erasure.
