Far Away بعيد عنّك
Creative documentary, DV Pal, 25 min, 16:9 — 2010–2011
Shaped by a migratory childhood across several countries, the artist recalls a common practice from the 1980s: voice or video messages sent on cassette to loved ones “back home.” This memory became central when she was invited to take part in an exhibition in Jerusalem and Ramallah. Aware of the armed conflict, she chose not to present a conventional artwork and instead asked strangers a single question:“Do you have a message for people in Jerusalem and Ramallah, knowing this video will be shown there?”. This simple, direct gesture echoes intimate long-distance communication. Later shown in São Paulo, the video resonated with another diaspora-formed audience. Its title also refers to the song بعيد عنك by Oum Kalthoum, whose voice evokes a powerful sense of shared memory among Arabs in exile.
